Malibu

California

Just off Las Flores Canyon in Malibu, and at 1500 feet above sea level, this 1965 Spanish presented a host of challenges when a gut renovation commenced in 2021. Most recently used as a set for a BBC television series, the house was showing the scars of what time and film production can do. The 3 bedroom, 3 bath with 1 bed, 1 bath guesthouse, first underwent a structural upgrade to support a new staircase and full-width cantilevered balcony.  Once the framing was complete, an entire window and door package was installed, and everything was redesigned and replaced. New mechanicals, electrical, and plumbing followed, as well as a new clay tile roof and drainage.

The finishes were where this project really took on a new life. With a balanced combination of Spanish and Moroccan elements, Ruckercorp worked with the owners to source fixtures, tile,  flooring, and stone that walked the line between beach estate, and mountain lodge.
